Baked Goods for the Occasion
I was making brownies in my kitchen for work, wondering what I should write about in my blog for the web-site, www.mealsonwheels.com. It was a bit nerve-wracking considering I’ve never written one; and even though I know I can cook and bake, I had never put so much thought into an idea for a food blog. The funny thing is I was baking exactly what I would be writing about later that night. You see, the reason that I was stirring brownie mix, had a batch of lemon bars in the freezer, and some muffins in the oven, was because I was using my, “just add water and eggs” culinary expertise to promote nutrition through the program, “World Relief Share a Slice of Hope”. Pizza Hut is a company that I work for, that is currently hosting a charity, where its contributions are being used to feed people all over the world that are suffering from a lack of nutrition. Back to my kitchen setting, where I’m cracking eggs and fighting with the mixing bowl. I realized how the pastries I was baking were helping a greater cause and how far the six dollars I invested were going to go. A total of 20 dollars was donated to the charity, made from selling my baked goods. It is wonderful how the selling of a couple of baked goods can go a long way for those in times of need.
Pizza Hut was able to raise 2Million Dollars for, “The World Relief Share a Slice of Hope”, last year and was able to feed 8 million people. The company is having the same event this year and is currently at 780,000$ in donations. Because of the increase in food prices in a world that is increasing in populations and decreasing in the production of agriculture, it is becoming more difficult for people to feed themselves. The goal of the organization is to help provide nutrition to as many people possible. To find out more about the charity event, or if you would like to donate, you can visit sliceofhope.pizza.com.
When it came to making the baked goods, I felt good about myself because I was giving something to the world. It’s interesting how people are more willing to donate after there are sweet treats involved. Using baked goods to help out a charity is a fun and cheap. The cost of making the baked goods is relatively affordable. People are willing to buy them because of how yummy they are. Cupcakes and baked goods are an excellent choice for any occasion. There are many different ways that they can be creatively made and make them more appealing to the consumer. Given that Halloween is around the corner, I decorated the baked goods I made for Pizza Hut with fun spooky Halloween bags. The time I spent making the baked goods gave me a chance to bond with my friend Sylvia. Not only were we making the baked goods for a good cause, but enjoyed the process.
Making baked goods, can be a fun experience for any occasions. Whether it’s for a charity, fund-raiser, or for simply spending quality time with family and friends, it’s always a sweet time. Considering that I will be making more baked goods in the future, for the same event, I am going to take it a step further by making a recipe that I got online from Martha Stuart. On the website www.marthastuart.com I found a recipe on Bat and Cobweb cookies. The recipe looks fun and good for the occasion, you can visit the recipe online by clicking the link: halloween cookies.
