High Fructose Corn Syrup
What is High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), you may ask, since it is supposedly so unhealthy for us all? Here is a way to look at how HFCS is being portrayed; when in a relationship you think that your partner is perfect and that he/she would never do anything to put you in harm’s way. That is one way that you can look at how HFCS is portrayed, because in the end you realize it was all an act; you do get hurt in the end. HFCS is a common sugar sweetener that is found in flavored fruit drinks, and sodas. It can also be found in many food products, such as whole grain bread, tomato sauce, salad dressing, jams, and even ice cream. If HFCS is found in salad dressing then how can we say that we are being healthy? I honestly see it as hypocritical when we say one thing that we would not do, then later there we are doing it. I do believe that the real question we should be asking ourselves is, “Well if HFCS is bad for us, then how much we are consuming on a daily basis?” Glad you asked because that question can be answered. On average, Americans consume 132 calories of HFCS each day. Obviously, that is not a good thing, but it is also not that bad. If you are still reading this my fellow followers of Meals on Wheels, I can understand that you are very upset; but I feel that you should be well aware of what it is that you are consuming. Yes, the labels might say one thing, but if you do your research you could be surprised at what it is that you might find. Here is a friendly “Did You Know Fact” from your gracious health guru at Meals On Wheels. HFCS can be found in approximately 40 percent of items purchased at your local grocery place. So next time you want that delicious container of yogurt, soda, or box of crackers, try looking at the informative nutrition label that is placed right on the box for you to see. It is not only the fault of the producers who post the nutrition facts, but it is also our fault for not taking the time to look at what it is we are consuming. I mean our generation has evolved, and I know that everyone has to have a Smartphone. So if you don’t know what it is that you are consuming look it up on your phone. I mean honestly it is not that hard. Also, if you have a friend that has a health issue like, diabetes, heart problems, cholesterol, or high-blood pressure issues, let them know what it is that they are consuming; do not just let them eat their life away. Your not saying a word to them makes you partially responsible for their death, so be a better friend. By the way, attention all you diabetics; HFCS has a negative impact on your health, as it has been found to offset blood pressure, body weight and insulin levels leading to the rising prevalence of metabolic syndrome. So please take care of yourself because diabetes runs in my family, and I have already lost a loved one because food and HFCS got the best of them. It can also cause heart problems. Researchers have also found other ways on how HFCS is unhealthy . One study found that fructose, more than glucose, increases fat in the liver. Now if nothing of what I have said is going to help you change your mind on how you eat or what you eat I honestly do not know what will. If you want to die eating McDonalds then that is your choice because it can happen. If you want to change your lifestyle and see what can cause you to make better decisions watch Super Size Me it is a documentary that will literally make you want to change for the better.
